The McCormick Research Center’s Collection includes over 10,000 books on military history, primary and secondary sources, and archives that tell the story of individual veterans. The secondary works in the library include texts on battles, campaigns, and wars, reference books, rare unit histories, and military manuals. Primary sources include the bound battle records of the First Division in World War I and the Division’s World War II battle records on microfilm. The library also has a large selection of military history videos, military journals, and history magazines.
The Military Archives contains archival materials donated by veterans of the 1st Infantry Division and their families. These donations include original letters, documents, and photographs. The Archives also have film, video footage, and oral histories.
The Reading Room is open to the public on Wednesdays and Thursdays during normal museum operating hours.
