In Vietnam, as in other wars, American soldiers collected souvenirs. Local entrepreneurs set up stands and shops near U.S. bases. ‘Tour jackets’ personalized with Asian-style designs and dates of service in Vietnam were popular among troops returning home. Specialist Larry Ping, 1st Aviation Battalion, bought this jacket in Saigon during one of his many trips to the city in 1967 and 1968.
