Service Coat

Sergeant Harry Spark, Machine Gun Company, 28th Infantry Regiment wore this coat home on his return to the U.S. in 1919. It features an oval First Division Shoulder Insignia made with a gray base instead of the usual drab wool. It is the same coat he is wearing in the photograph. Spark was injured while serving as a machine gunner at an advance post in the Argonne Forest on October 7th, 1918. He is pictured being assisted by a Salvation Army worker at an aid station.
