This Viet Cong (VC) flag was captured by the 7th Field Artillery during Operation Abilene on April 11, 1966. It was found in a large tunnel in the VC controlled village of Xom Xa Nam, located approximately 25 miles northeast of Vung Tau.
Operation Abilene was a search and destroy mission through the southeastern Phuoc Tuy Province. The intended target was the VC 5th Division, however VC troops largely avoided battle with the sweeping U.S. units.
