This is a French straight pull Lebel model 1886 rifle, which was manufactured in 1892. The Lebel was the primary rifle used by the French Infantry in WWI. The rifle is chambered in 8mm Lebel and the rounds are stored in an internal magazine tube that holds 8 rounds below the barrel of the gun. The M1886 Lebel was the first military rifle to use a smokeless cartridge.
