AKMS Rifle

This rifle is a lighter version of the AK-47 carried by Iraqi soldiers in the Persian Gulf War. The main difference is that the buttstock (the part of the rifle that is braced against the shoulder) is metal and folds down after use. This makes the AKMS more compact for carrying.

This weapon was captured in Northern Kuwait from elements of the Iraqi II Corps as it was fleeing the rapid advance of the First Infantry Division (Mechanized) during Operation Desert Storm. It was standard issue to Iraqi soldiers attached to Mechanized Infantry and Armor units.
