Lieutenant Colonel Steven Goligowski carried this coin every day of his career, including during Operation Desert Storm. It is from the roll of dollar coins he purchased so he could pay “a silver dollar” to the first enlisted soldier who saluted him after his 1979 commission ceremony, an Army tradition. Goligowski used the coins from the same roll to pay the final enlisted soldiers who saluted him on his last day of active duty in 2007.
