This battle-damaged sign was looted from the village of Cantigny, France following the May 1918 battle. The cast-iron plaque had been affixed to the exterior of a municipal building in the village center. Both the donor and his brother served with the First Division during WWI. They brought the sign home and donated it to the museum in 1974.
