1st Lieutenant Albert Clark Welch captured this weapon in June 1967, while commanding the Recon Platoon, 2nd Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment at Lai Khe. While aiding a wounded U.S. soldier during a firefight, a Viet Cong soldier charged at Welch while firing his gun. Welch picked up his own rifle with one hand and fired 20 rounds into the enemy soldier’s chest. Afterward, Welch retrieved the enemy weapon. He kept it in his office at Lai Khe and allowed his men to carry it on patrol around the camp
