Service ribbons are awarded to distinguished members of the armed services.
Below are some of the ribbons that our First Infantry Division service members hold across various ranks in service. You can see we’ve incorporated these service ribbons on the bottom of our website to commemorate the accomplishments of all service members who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
Medal of Honor
The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration awarded by the US Army. It is awarded for gallantry and intrepidity at risk of life above and beyond the call of duty.
Distinguished Service Cross (Army)
The Distinguished Service Cross is the second highest military decoration awarded by the US Army. It is awarded for extraordinary heroism in action.
Silver Star Medal
The Silver Star Medal is awarded for gallantry in action while serving with the US Army.
Bronze Star Medal
The Bronze Star Medal is awarded for bravery, acts of merit, or meritorious service.
Purple Heart
The Purple Heart is awarded to those who have been wounded or killed while serving on or after April 5, 1917 with the U.S. military.
World War I Victory Medal
The World War I Victory Medal was awarded to those who served in the armed forces from April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918. It was also awarded to those who served in European Russia from November 12, 1918, to August 5, 1919 or with the American Expeditionary Force Siberia from November 23, 1918, to April 1, 1920.
World War II Victory Medal
The World War II Victory Medal was awarded to those who served on active duty, or as a reservist, between December 7, 1941 and December 31, 1946.
National Defense Service Medal
The National Defense Service Medal is awarded to those who served as active duty during periods of the Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, and War on Terrorism.
Vietnam Service Ribbon
The Vietnam Service Ribbon was issued to recognize military service during the Vietnam War, in Vietnam and contiguous waters or airspace thereover.
